Founding President's Welcome
We are excited to introduce you to Theta Alpha Psi (TAP)!

TAP Co-Founders met at U-M through a learning opportunity about "sustainable energy" from corporations in Houston, TX. After hearing executives from BP and Shell speak about their greenwashed "sustainability" initiatives, we were deeply dissatisfied. These corporate projects didn't focus on the root of the problem: a realistic outlook on our future needs and available resources.
Throughout the year, we shared frustrations with each other about U-M clubs that don’t prioritize community impact, passionate goals, and ambitious interdisciplinary learning about both social and environmental sustainability. One night, we decided to start a new campus organization: an interdisciplinary sustainability co-ed fraternity that would break patriarchal professional fraternity norms, provide accessible sustainability learning opportunities, and engage the next generation of aspiring sustainability leaders. Enter Theta Alpha Psi.
Within TAP, our foundations are rooted in creating a space for inclusive expression and learning across all industries and disciplines, while emphasizing bonding and networking to truly connect and problem-solve as a team. For this reason, TAP has 3 Clusters of Business, Technology, and Environment, for Tapmates to explore their interests with the support of each other.
As a new member, you can expect to grow with us and push the boundaries of sustainability action. As a Tapling (a new member within TAP) you can look forward to:
-
Attending weekly Chapter meetings to understand internal programming
-
Spending weekly time with your fellow Taplings in TAP Class (new member meetings) to learn about networking, linkedin, sustainability101, activism101, etc.
-
Engaging in your capstone project, a TAP-led local project highlighting curiosity, local impact, and project management skill development
-
Attending weekly socials: whether that’s walking in the arb, checking out the U-M Farm Stand, or screaming to Saweetie on Friday nights
-
Attending weekly programming such as service learning with our partner organizations, activism workshops, cluster specific workshops, documentary viewings, or wellness challenges (just to name a few!)
The need for interdisciplinary sustainability is pressing, and the place for you to TAP into sustainable change is Theta Alpha Psi.
Graciously,
Hershy Jalluri, Kelsie Imus, and Kelly Ni
